Friday’s win at Fulham was a great way for Leeds to sign off before the final international break of the season.
There’s eight games left now and that win at Fulham virtually assures of us a mid-table finish which on our first season back in the Premier League is a fantastic achievement. It was a 12th win of the season – the same as Arsenal and Aston Villa – and comfortably more than some of the more established clubs in the league.
It was another deserved win as well. We had yet another of those marginal goals ruled out by VAR, but a clinical finish from Pat Bamford and then one from Raphinha proved enough to get the points. It was a tried and trusted formula from Marcelo with the personnel and on another night Leeds would have blown Fulham away before half-time.
Meslier once again caught the eye with a couple of important saves, but Fulham have struggled to create chances this season and Leeds gave them very little in the way of opportunities. That said, although they are in the relegation zone I don’t think Fulham are the third worst team in the Premier League and I still think they will stay up.
I watched Newcastle at Brighton on Saturday night and, for me, they look like a side who have relegation written all over them. They are in freefall and it’s a shame we don’t have to play them again because they are a walking three points for anyone at the moment are Newcastle.
For us, there’s a decent break now to hopefully re-charge some batteries before a big three games. Man City and Liverpool are the first two before Man United come to Elland Road at the end of April for a game when we can hopefully get some pride back after what happened at Old Trafford in December.
