Well, that suddenly changed the picture a bit.
To say we were sitting comfortably 48 hours ago would be an overstatement, but it’s fair to say the Premier League table was a lot easier on the eye for Leeds fans than it is this morning.
Norwich get their first win, Watford pump Man United, my old mate Stevie G gets his first win at Aston Villa, and even Burnley and Newcastle manage to pick up points.
Now we go into two away games having been sucked right back into the mix. Antonio Conte picked up a point at Everton in his first game as Tottenham manager before the international break, and he’s had a couple of weeks to work with a lot of his players since then.
Whereas Tottenham have often been unpredictable and it’s been a case of which Spurs side will turn up, I don’t think you will see that under Conte. They will be organised, resolute and difficult to break down at the bare minimum.
This will have been a game Leeds fans will have been looking forward to. It’s our first time at the new Tottenham stadium. There’s always been a healthy rivalry between the two clubs, and that will mean for a cracking atmosphere today.
I always used to enjoy playing at White Hart Lane because of the atmosphere and I’m told that the new stadium has managed to retain that atmosphere, even though the fans won’t be right on top of you as they used to be there.
Junior Firpo and Joe Geldhardt should be added to the squad today, but whether Marcelo makes any changes remains to be seen.
We lost 3-0 at Tottenham last season and beat them 3-1 at home on the final day. I don’t think we’ll see three goals this afternoon, and would expect a much tighter contest. If we can come away with a point, I’d be more than happy with that.
