That was more like it.
It was like turning the clock back 12 months on Sunday watching the West Ham game.
For the first time in a long time we saw a confident Leeds side playing with the same abandon that took the Premier League by storm last season and ensured a comfortable finish on our first year back.
I can’t lie, it wasn’t a performance I saw coming. Yes, we’ve had our moments this season but by and large we’ve never looked like hitting the straps like we did in games last season.
Yes, it’s true we could have drawn the game – Jarrod Bowen will still be having nightmares about not putting his head in there in the final minute – but we could also have won 4-2 had the ball not hit Rodrigo on the line for our disallowed goal. It was the right decision, but without VAR it would have been allowed.
It was another performance where Raphinha showed his quality. It’s no surprise to see him being linked with all and sundry once again because, for me, he is one the best players in the Premier League.
His passing and movement are unbelievable, and when you couple that with the rare quality he has to be able to create something from nothing and turn a game on its head, and I doubt there is a club in Europe that wouldn’t want him in their team. There’s no way we will lose him this month, but keeping him going forward has to be a priority.
I was really chuffed for Jack Harrison as well on Sunday. Jack works his socks off, and doesn’t always get the credit he deserves, but on Sunday he went away with the match-ball and thoroughly deserved it was. His class was summed up with his hat-trick, the third goal being the finish of a man in confidence.
It was a win which opened up real daylight away from the bottom clubs and could maybe be the one that provides a platform for the final months of the season now.
We’ve now won back-to-back league games for the first time this season, and with Newcastle at Elland Road on Saturday, we have a great chance of making it three.
